During the first 1 ½ hour of the course, Dr. B. will:
- Analyze several sample SAT and ACT writing prompts and discuss the standard elements that are present in every prompt
- Discuss ways to approach writing about controversial issues which is the expectation for every SAT/ACT writing test prompt
- Discuss how to effectively incorporate reasons and evidence
- Discuss how to incorporate counterarguments
- Review tips for efficiently managing the writing process (planning, organizing, and writing) in only 25 minutes
- Discuss effective vs. ineffective tone, style, and word choice for argumentative writing
During the last 25 minutes of the course, students will take a practice, timed writing test. Within 48 hours of the completion of the course, a detailed report including feedback, suggestions for improvement, suggestions for further study, and a copy of the essay written by the student during the timed practice test will be either emailed or sent through the U. S. Postal Service to each student. During the registration process, the preferred method for receiving the written report will be chosen.
